Read this before you laser off that tattoo
Let’s be real. Some of us change our minds all the time. Tattoos are no exception to this.
Laser tattoo removal is a painful and lengthy process. There are a few options you can explore before deciding whether laser removal is the best route.
Blackout:
Quite self explanatory. Characterised by their bold & striking appearance, it involves saturating the skin with a black pigment, completely ‘blacking’ it out. A blackout tattoo is ideal for covering large unwanted existing designs.
Blastovers & unders:
Blast overs usually involve bold black lines and illustrative designs that go over your old tattoo. Since the objective of a blastover isn’t to cover the existing tattoo completely, it gives you and your artist more creative freedom. Blast overs are an amazing way to pay homage to your old self while also expressing the new you today. It can also look like overlapping tattoos, which can be quite cool.
Bonus if you have lighter or faded colours in your existing tattoo, a blastover can look like stained glass!

Fixup/touch ups
If a tattoo has faded, the option is there to rework and possibly add to the existing tattoo. However, bear in mind that the options for additions are limited to what is already on the skin.
Coverup
As in the name, cover the tattoo completely! Options can be sometimes limited depending on the existing tattoo. However, the general rule is to go bigger and bolder than the original tattoo.
